The Directorate of Science, Technology, & Innovation in partnership with the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM), and the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) is inviting the general public to submit ideas to its connectivity challenge during its annual Commonwealth ICT Forum which is being held at the Bintumani Hotel in Freetown, 31 July – 2 August 2019.
The Connectivity Innovation Idea Challenge

Do you have an innovative idea that could make a positive impact by providing or making use of increased quality connectivity in Sierra Leone? Participate in the Sierra Leone Connectivity and Innovation Idea Challenge and have a chance to win SLL 5,000,000 to make your idea a reality. Winning ideas will also be given an opportunity to develop a prototype in partnership with DSTI.
Finalist teams will be invited to pitch their ideas live on stage at the Commonwealth ICT Forum 2019 on Friday, August 2 at 14:30 pm, Bintumani Hotel. Ideas will be judged by the following metrics: Innovation; Impact; and Feasibility.
How to Apply
All submissions must be done via this form (https://forms.gle/BjFgjpUj7iAmqktE7) by 8:00 am on Friday, August 2, 2019. Teams will be notified about their inclusion into the Finalist stage by Friday, 11 am and they should be available to pitch at 14:30 pm on the same day at Bintumani Hotel. Team pitches will be 3 mins and should discuss the Problem, Big Idea, and the Innovative Solution.
Special consideration will be given to teams/ideas that are discussed at the CTO conference and revolving around the themes of the conference: Rural connectivity, Analogue to Digital, Broadcasting transformation, Enhancing local innovation, Emerging technologies, Big data, Youth and ICTs, Data protection, Broadband infrastructure sharing, and OTTs.

The Commonwealth ICT Forum 2019 will provide an excellent opportunity for participants to learn from global experts as well as share their experiences of successes and challenges in the deployment and utilization of broadband. This event is a veritable platform to meet with fellow policymakers from across Africa and the wider Commonwealth membership, learn from their experiences and gain insights through interactive sessions. The participants will be composed of Ministers, senior officials in policy-making bodies, regulators, broadcasters, content developers, civil society, network infrastructure providers, operators, equipment manufacturers, and opinion leaders.
